Visit the Flying Ravana Adventure Park

Are you looking to add a bit of thrill to your hill country getaway? Head over to Flying Ravana Adventure Park, just on the way to Little Adam’s Peak. It’s where the calm of Ella’s tea valleys meets full-on adventure.

This is a great spot if you’re after something different like a day out with friends or family that’s exciting, active and memorable.

The star attraction here is the zip line. It’s built high over a scenic tea valley and runs more than half a kilometre, offering excellent views of the Ella Gap and surrounding hills.

You’ll fly across the valley strapped into a dual line, side-by-side with a friend – an absolute must-do if you’re in Ella.

But the adventure doesn’t stop there. Hop onto an ATV and ride off-road trails around Little Adam’s Peak for a different perspective of the landscape. If you’re feeling bold, give abseiling a go and descend a rock face with the tea country and Ravana Falls right behind you.

It’s not every day you get views like that.

For something a little more grounded but still challenging, test your aim at the outdoor archery range or try your hand at air rifling. Both are great fun, especially with a group.

The park is designed to be easy to access, safe and full of variety, so you can choose how adventurous you want to be. Spend a few hours or the whole day. It’s a fun, energetic break from the slower pace of tea country life.

So when you’re ready to trade your hammock or veranda view for some action, this is the place to be. You’ll walk away with stories, laughs and maybe even a new favourite adventure.

Go for the Ella Rock Hike

If you’re up for a bit of a challenge with rewarding views at the end, hiking Ella Rock is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon in the hills.

It’s more demanding than the walk to Little Adam’s Peak but also more off-the-grid with no built-in steps or paved paths here. This trail feels wilder and more real and that’s what makes it fun.

You’ll start on a flat path, walking along railway tracks and through local villages and tea plantations. Locals may pass you with a wave and the scenery keeps shifting, from open plains to tall trees and quiet patches of forest.

Halfway in, the climb begins to steepen. It’s not too tough but it does require steady footing and a little patience.

As you make your way to the top, the views start to open up.

Once you reach the summit, take a break and soak in the stunning mountain ranges and the wide sweep of Ella Gap. A cool king coconut (called thambili) from a local vendor feels just right here.

The trail isn’t well-marked, so it helps to hike with their naturalist if they’re available. They know the place well and can add insights about what you’re walking through.

If you decide to go on your own, check in with one of their butlers first, they’ll walk you through the route and make sure you’re all set.

This isn’t just a fast-paced hike but this experience is also about enjoying the changes in the trail. Reaching the top, you’re rewarded with wide, open views and a calm that stays with you long after the hike ends. Bring good shoes, take your time and don’t forget your camera.

  • “The building would have been enough. What we did not expect was how much of the day the staff quietly built around what we said at breakfast.”
