Hike to the Great Himalayan National Park

    Host • Kudrat - A Boutique Homestay

Hike to the Great Himalayan National Park

Kudrat, true to its name, means ‘nature’ and is a paradise located at the very edge of a dense forest embraced by towering deodar and pine trees with plenty of trekking and hiking trails.

These hikes traverse through rustic, untouristed villages, where nature showcases its unmatched beauty. Within moments, the path unfolds into a breathtaking panorama — crystal-clear river waters shimmer behind the towering cedar trees. The air hums with the rush of the river, mingling with the sharp, melodious sound of birds.

One of the most rewarding treks is the hike to the Great Himalayan National Park gate, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This five-kilometre trail, winding through thick forests, takes around four hours, round trip. The glacier-fed Tirthan River flows beside the trail, its icy waters glistening under the mountain sun.

Along the way, you’ll pass through ancient orchards, stumble upon sleepy villages and see traditional Himachali homes. The trail remains blissfully quiet, untouched by heavy footfall, offering you rare encounters with beautiful birds and elusive mountain wildlife.

Another unmissable adventure is the day hike to Jamala meadows. Beginning right at Kudrat’s doorstep, this trail snakes through dense cedar forests and the charming villages of Sharchi and Jamala.

As the climb intensifies, the landscape transforms, revealing sprawling meadows that offer breathtaking, panoramic views of the snow-capped Pir Panjal peaks.

Here, under the vast open sky, you can pause, breathe and soak the richness of the Himalayas. To top it off, this hike can be paired with a delicious, locally prepared Himachali lunch, packed with nutrition and warmth — a perfect way to refuel before the journey back.
