Go for a Canoe Ride on the Denwa River Backwaters

Guided by a trained forest reserve expert, the canoe ride experience is both safe and informative. You are provided with life jackets and briefed on safety measures before setting out.

The canoe moves smoothly through the water, providing you with an opportunity to observe the region’s rich biodiversity up close.

One of the highlights of the ride is the variety of water birds that grace the banks. Keep your eyes peeled for flashes of vibrant colours as kingfishers dart by, or the elegant stillness of herons and egrets patiently waiting.

The slow approach of the canoe allows for quiet moments of birdwatching without disturbing the wildlife. Somersaulting fish occasionally break the surface, adding to the dynamic natural setting.

Beyond birdwatching, the ride provides stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The backwater is flanked by dense forests and rolling hills, creating a picturesque setting that changes with the time of day.

In the early morning, mist often lingers over the water, while the evening ride gives you a chance to witness the warm shades of sunset reflecting off the river.

The canoe ride is designed for a personalised experience, available on a one-person or two-person basis. Whether taken alone for solitude or shared with a companion, the ride allows you to become one with nature without distractions.

This activity is ideal for those looking to unwind and take in the beauty of Satpura at a slow, immersive pace. Without the noise of a motorised boat, the canoe ride ensures a quiet, eco-friendly way to explore the backwaters and appreciate the raw beauty of the national park.

    Immersive Nature Walks

    Immersive Nature Walks

The forest is home to a wide variety of plants, trees, and animals, making each walk different from the last. While walking, you may come across tracks left behind by nocturnal animals, spot insects camouflaged against tree bark or observe butterflies fluttering through open clearings.

The ever-changing sounds make every step a learning experience. Birdwatchers will find plenty to observe, as Satpura is home to several resident and migratory species.

The calls of cuckoos, barbets and woodpeckers echo through the trees, while kingfishers and cormorants can often be seen near water bodies.

A patient observer may even spot the Malabar flying squirrel, a species found only in Satpura within Madhya Pradesh.

The walk also provides a chance to see reptiles that are often difficult to spot otherwise. The Indian chameleon, with its ability to change colour and blend into its surroundings, is a rare sight.

Monitor lizards, known for their stealth, may be seen basking on rocks or moving through the undergrowth.

Unlike vehicle safaris, a nature walk allows you to engage with the environment at a more personal level. The slow pace encourages awareness of smaller details like patterns in tree bark, nests built in surprising places or the way certain plants attract specific insects.

This activity is ideal if you’re looking to explore the wilderness beyond the traditional safari and truly offers an in-depth experience of Satpura’s diverse ecosystem.
