Discover the Maasai Mara on an E‑Bike

When you stay at Cottar’s Bush Villa, one of the experiences that makes you feel connected to this place and reduces your carbon footprint is the option to explore by e‑bike.

These open‑air electric rides allow you to glide through the Olderkesi Conservancy, getting closer to giraffes, antelopes and plains game than you might on foot or from a vehicle.

You’ll feel the turn of the wheels, sense the breeze across the Mara grassland and hear the birds above you without the hum of an engine.

Here’s what it means for your journey: you’re outside, absorbing every detail of the bush like the scent of dry grass, the warmth of morning sun, the patterns of wildlife around you, but powered deliberately and lightly.

It reduces carbon-dioxide that would come from traditional game drives, aligning with the villa’s commitment to becoming net‑positive in emissions.

You can explore alongside a knowledgeable guide who understands the terrain and the behaviour of the wildlife.

These rides are offered as an alternative to fuel‑based drives, reinforcing your stay’s low-impact ethos.

As you ride, you may pause near a grazing giraffe or stop to scan the horizon for elephants or predators, each moment deliberate, intimate and sustainable. It’s a wildlife moment shaped by intention, not speed or commercial volume.

You’re not just observing; you’re participating consciously. You’ll leave with the understanding that your choice of travel – slower, quieter, human-powered – directly supports conservation.

The experience reflects the broader values of Cottar’s: protecting land, partnering with local communities and offering purposeful, high‑value safari travel under The Long Run’s 4Cs model of Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce.

Swim and Spend Unhurried Moments by Bush Villa’s Pool

The 25-metre pool at Cottar’s Bush Villa is a space where you’ll feel the slower pulse of the surrounding wilderness. Framed by the open Maasai Mara plains, the poolside becomes a great place to witness the daily life of the savannah.

Wildlife moves in the distance at an unhurried pace and the air carries only the sounds of wind through grass and the chirping of birds.

When you swim here, the experience is stripped back to its essentials. Cool water meets warm air and each stroke is unhurried.

The stillness invites you to focus on your breathing, your body’s weight in the water and the horizon beyond the pool’s edge. You might choose steady laps for clarity of mind or simply float, letting the sun warm your skin.

The deck is a place to pause. Between swims, you can lie back, watch clouds shift or track the movement of animals far off in the plains. The villa’s design makes it easy to move between the privacy of your suite and the openness of the outdoors, keeping you in close connection with the environment.

In the late afternoon, when the light softens and the air cools, you may see giraffes silhouetted against the horizon or antelope grazing in the golden grass.

Even this simple act is part of a bigger picture.

The pool is maintained with care, in line with the villa’s commitment to conserving resources.

Since the villa operates within a conservation and community partnership that safeguards 7,608 acres of land, your hours spent swimming or resting here directly support the protection of wildlife and the livelihoods of the local Maasai community.

  • “The building would have been enough. What we did not expect was how much of the day the staff quietly built around what we said at breakfast.”

  • “Everything was arranged before we asked, and nothing felt arranged. That is a hard thing to get right and they get it right.”
