Wired; Deep into the Amazon
A chance to be in one the most remote parts of Peru. Deep in the rainforest-one that can be heard, touched not just seen. A solitary rare frog hops passed, a cacophony of birds flap overhead and researchers chatter over their wine. The forest of plenty has much to give.
Sure, we all know the Amazon, the river and the forest. But how well do we know it? The river accounts for 20% of the world’s fresh water flow into the oceans and the rainforest are the planet’s lungs! And I say, if we get a chance, we must grab it! Of course, current and recent developments have created havoc amongst the nature, wildlife and indigenous peoples, that call this rainforest home. But to get the real picture we need to venture deeper. And this is that chance. You set out in a boat, from Puerto Maldonado, down the great Amazon. 7 hours later and you have arrived at the most remote lodge in the Peruvian Amazon, deep in its heart. The Tambopata Research Centre. You would be one of the very small human population here. But that’s what makes this even better. Macaws, monkeys, jaguars – you’ll have a visit from them all. The time you spend here, watching, observing, listening, hearing and recording it all – this is all a contribution to science and comes with a better, much-needed understanding of the ecosystem here. It’s the closest to being a scientist! In fact you’ll be rubbing shoulders and getting into conversations with them too! This then would be a truly immersive few days in the jungle, enabling you to be a part of something much greater than mere tourism.
