Sacred Mount Bintumani - The last stretch of our trek
Guess what today was? Climbing the highest mountain of Sierra Leone and West Africa, Mount Bintumani. It’s an elusive mountain and peak and only a few locals have climbed it.

At times the path up the mountain disappears. We saw the path in the distance and though it seemed far away, we kept walking and step by step it got clearer and closer until reaching the base. Clamouring and pulling ourselves over it’s last jagged surface, there is was, the top! It was amazing to see each face appearing over the edge. Awesome to reach the top, have the views and say YAY!! I did it! I loved this part and it was one of many meaningful experiences. So often people equate scaling a mountain as the essential goal or milestone of greatest accomplishment but with that mindset so many equally rich and significant aspects of travel are missed. What I love about Sierra Leone is how diverse this country is and right now it’s almost a secret destination. Partly, I would want to keep it that way and yet would also want to share how wonderful the country is. With postcards, there isn’t enough space to write everything! If I can say one thing, get yourself to Sierra Leone. I know I will be back!
